The flea market of the Firefighters Association in the heart of the village
The Firefighters Flea Market of Crécy-en-Ponthieu is an annual event organized by the local Firefighters Association. Each spring, the centre of this historic Ponthieu village turns into a vast bargain market. Private sellers and hunters meet in a friendly atmosphere, in support of the firefighters. A solidarity rendezvous combining flea market pleasure and local cause.
The flea market organized each year by the Crécy-en-Ponthieu Firefighters Association is part of a fine French tradition: events led by firefighters to fund their activities and equipment. Taking over the village centre on a Sunday in spring, the firefighters and their volunteers offer hunters a day of strolling and good deals, with proceeds going entirely to the Association.
The event unfolds in the historic centre of Crécy-en-Ponthieu, around the shopping streets and main square. Exhibitors set up their stalls from the early hours. You will find the typical diversity of village flea markets: small furniture, tableware, household linen, books, toys, clothes, tools, trinkets and collectibles.
Crécy-en-Ponthieu is a name that echoes in French history: it was here, in 1346, that King Edward III of England inflicted a decisive defeat on the French army during the Battle of Crécy, a founding moment of the Hundred Years War. Today, the village perpetuates the memory of this historical page with its Edward III windmill and museum.
The spirit of the firefighters' flea market is first of all one of commitment and solidarity. Association volunteers ensure welcome, logistics and the refreshment stand, where visitors can eat grilled food, sandwiches and of course fries. The atmosphere is family, friendly.
A visit to Crécy-en-Ponthieu is the ideal opportunity to discover this corner of Picardy full of history. After the flea market, you can visit the 1346 battle site, explore the Crécy forest, or extend your trip to Saint-Riquier and its abbey.
