The end-of-winter bargain hunt of Lafrançaise judokas
TRT Judo club of Lafrançaise organises its annual flea market at the town hall venue. A Sunday dedicated to bargain hunting, mixing indoor and outdoor pitches, attracting hunters from Quercy and northern Tarn-et-Garonne. Affordable rates, on-site catering, club spirit and sports solidarity: a much-anticipated late-winter event in the commune.
Lafrançaise is a medieval bastide in the north of Tarn-et-Garonne, perched on a hillside overlooking the Tarn valley between Montauban and Moissac. Rich in heritage and community life, the commune has a dynamic sports network, including the TRT Judo club (Tarn et Garonne Judo) which trains young and less young in the noble art of the tatami. To fund its activities — equipment, travel to competitions, instructor training — the club organises its big late-winter flea market every year.
The event is held at the Lafrançaise town hall venue, with a mixed format: pitches inside the hall (for exhibitors wishing to escape the late-March cold) and outside stalls on the forecourt and surroundings. This dual configuration accommodates about thirty private vendors and ensures the smooth running of the event whatever the weather.
Family bric-à-brac, adult and children's clothing, toys, crockery, books, vinyl records, comics, small furniture, decorative items, tools: variety is on the menu. Some amateur sellers also offer sports-related items, leisure equipment or small vintage pieces. It is a good chance to bargain hunt at the start of spring, just before the big flea markets of April and May.
The spirit of the TRT Judo flea market is resolutely that of a family club: judokas and their parents handle the pitches, welcome and catering. A refreshment area and a snack corner serve drinks, sandwiches and grilled meats to visitors all day long. The proceeds go to the club to fund the sports season, tournament travel and material needs.
The flea market opens at 8 AM and runs until 5 PM. For serious bargain hunters, an early arrival remains the best strategy. The Lafrançaise town hall venue is accessible in the heart of the village, with free parking nearby. Take the opportunity to discover the perched bastide, its fortified church and the exceptional panorama over the Tarn valley.
