Saint-Benoît, abbey commune of Grand Poitiers

About 7,000 inhabitants immediately south of Poitiers, in the Grand Poitiers urban community. Named after Saint-Benoît Abbey, founded 8th century, which gave the village its identity. Today: residential (suburban zones, Poitiers services) and heritage-preserved (abbey, Clain hillsides, Flée hamlet).

Two 2026 flea markets: Sunday 21 June and Sunday 5 July. Dense community life, plus the Flée Free Commune market (14 June) — Saint-Benoît is generous with summer hunting events.

Saint-Benoît Abbey: a millennial history

Founded 8th century. Benedictine abbey, then Saint-Nicolas priory, then annexation. Current buildings are mainly 19th century (post-Revolution rebuild) with medieval elements. Listed parish church worth a visit — mixed Romanesque/Gothic.

Clain hillsides

Saint-Benoît spans both Clain banks. South-east slopes offer valley views, hiking paths, parks — pleasantly complete a hunting day.
