The Flée free commune's hunt
Flée is a historic hamlet of Saint-Benoît in Greater Poitiers. It has kept the folkloric tradition of the "free commune", an informal and humorous identity practised by some neighbourhoods or hamlets, with their own "mayor", festivities and distinct community life. Very lively in Poitou, this tradition embodies attachment to micro-territory.
The Flée Free Commune Flea Market reaches its 3rd edition in 2026 (Sunday 14 June). A young event settling into local associative life. Organised by the free commune's committee, it embodies neighbourhood dynamism.
About 7,000 inhabitants, Grand Poitiers agglomeration. Just south of Poitiers across the Clain. Rich heritage: Saint-Benoît Abbey (8th c., later priory), woodlands, Clain hillsides. Flée is one of its hamlets with its own character.
Poitiers centre (5 km, 10 min). Ligugé medieval abbey (5 km). Auchan Sud shopping centre (2 km).
Very appreciated by authenticity-seeking hunters. All local sellers, gentle prices (1-3 € mostly), big neighbourhood party vibe. Good way to explore an unfamiliar district.
Come by foot, bike or car. Arrive before 9 am. Cash, bag, water. Chat with sellers — they know their objects' stories. Also: discover Flée's heritage.
