Saint-Béat-Lez is a village of 457 inhabitants located at the gates of Spain and the Aran Valley, in the central Pyrenees. Formed from the merger of Saint-Béat and Lez in 2019, the commune bears the historic nickname of "Key of France" and the ancient Latin name of Passus Lupi (wolf's passage). Nestled between the Garonne and the mountains, the village is famous for its marble quarries exploited since Roman times, which supplied marble for many monuments.
The village boasts rich heritage: remains of a medieval keep, a Romanesque church, old stone and marble houses. Every autumn, the Marble and Arts Festival celebrates the city's sculpting tradition. The car boot sale is part of the event life of this dynamic commune, at the crossroads of the Pyrenean valleys.
