Viry-Châtillon, an industrial and residential commune on the Seine

Viry-Châtillon is an Essonne commune of around 31,000 inhabitants, on the southern inner rim of Greater Paris, along the Seine. Part of Grand Paris Sud, it is traversed by the legendary Nationale 7 road and its iconic bridge over the Seine. The commune's history is intertwined with river trade and industry, and today it blends residential neighbourhoods, business zones and a diverse, cosmopolitan population.

The proximity of Paris-Orly airport, a few kilometres away, is a key feature of Viry-Châtillon — both a source of economic activity and a constraint on residential life. RER C links the commune to Paris in under 30 minutes.

The September municipal flea market

The September municipal flea market is one of the most anticipated events of the autumn in Viry-Châtillon. Organised by the Town Hall, it brings together between 150 and 200 private sellers in the traffic-free town centre. Clothes, toys, books, knick-knacks, furniture and vintage electronics draw residents and visitors from neighbouring communes. Free entry for visitors.
