FCPE flea market on Place de la Liberté
FCPE holds its annual flea market on Place de la Liberté at L'Île-d'Elle. 2026: 3 May. A friendly day of bargain hunting in this south Vendée village on the edge of the Marais Poitevin, near Fontenay-le-Comte and Marans.
L'Île-d'Elle is a south Vendée commune of just over 1,700 inhabitants on the Charente-Maritime border, a few kilometres from Marans. It takes its name from its historic island position: before the 17th-century drainage works, the village was an island in the marsh. Today it sits on the edge of the Marais Poitevin.
FCPE (school parents' federation) runs an annual flea market on Place de la Liberté, the village heart. 2026: Sunday 3 May. Proceeds fund school projects and trips.
Authentic village with church, alleys and typical houses. Good road access. Nearby Marais Poitevin (Green Venice) draws visitors for punt boat trips and unique European landscapes.
Fontenay-le-Comte (art and history town, 15 min), Marans (river marina, 10 min), Maillezais and its abbey (20 min), La Rochelle (40 min). Marais Poitevin has many boat-hire points.
