About Vide-Grenier Coussergues

The Coussergues Committee Car Boot Sale is an annual event organized by the Coussergues Festival Committee on the pétanque court, next to the village games park. Coussergues is a former municipality in the Aveyron, merged since 2016 into the new municipality of Palmas-d'Aveyron with Cruéjouls and Palmas. This small village perched between 582 and 738 meters above sea level is distinguished by its two bell towers: that of the 19th-century church and the Romanesque comb bell tower of the former fortified church, erected in the 15th century. Fortified village in the 15th and 16th centuries, Coussergues retains remarkable heritage with its washhouse and Roman bridge. The event brings together about thirty private and professional exhibitors, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., in a warm and rural atmosphere, with refreshments and food on site.

A Village Car Boot Sale in the Heart of Aveyron

Each year, the Coussergues Festival Committee organizes its car boot sale in this small village of the new municipality of Palmas-d'Aveyron, in the Occitanie region. The event takes place on the pétanque court, next to the games park, offering a green and friendly setting for exhibitors and bargain hunters. About thirty sellers, both private and professional, offer their finds at low prices in an atmosphere typical of rural Aveyron events.

Coussergues, a Village with Two Bell Towers

Coussergues is an atypical village distinguished by the presence of two bell towers: that of the church built in the 19th century and the Romanesque comb bell tower of the former church, a remarkable medieval vestige. Fortified in the 15th and 16th centuries, the village retains traces of its defensive past. The original Romanesque church, whose choir was rebuilt in 1516, was built in 1352, then destroyed on the orders of the Bishop of Rodez to protect his castle in Palmas, before being rebuilt in 1356. In the 15th century, the comb bell tower was erected and, thanks to the presence of machicolations, the building became a fortified church.

Palmas-d'Aveyron, a New Municipality between Causses and Aubrac

Since January 1, 2016, Coussergues has been part of the new municipality of Palmas-d'Aveyron, created from the merger with Cruéjouls and Palmas. A member of the Community of Municipalities of Causses to Aubrac, this municipality of over 1,000 inhabitants covers 43.6 km² between 557 and 777 meters above sea level. Palmas, a former seigneury of the Bishops of Rodez, has a castle church whose bell tower is the former keep of the castle. Cruéjouls, whose Celtic origin name means "clearing", houses a 15th-century feudal castle flanked by four imposing round towers and a church listed as a historical monument.

Finds for All Tastes

The Coussergues car boot sale offers the typical diversity of Aveyron's outdoor events: crockery and kitchenware, books and comics, clothing and shoes, toys and games, gardening tools, knick-knacks and decorative objects, furniture, and small appliances. Bargain hunters appreciate the relaxed atmosphere and negotiable prices of this village gathering.

Refreshments and Food On Site

The Coussergues Festival Committee offers refreshments and food on site throughout the day, allowing visitors to eat between finds. Restrooms are also available, as well as a covered area in case of bad weather. The event takes place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with exhibitors able to set up from 5 a.m.

Practical Information for Visitors

The car boot sale is held at the Coussergues games park, on the pétanque court. Admission is free for visitors. It is advisable to arrive early in the morning to find the best deals. Coussergues is located about 16 km southeast of Espalion and about thirty kilometers from Rodez. A 2.4 km heritage trail marked with enameled slate plaques allows you to discover the village and its history before or after your bargain hunt.
