The Car boot Sale for LAM is a charitable event organized annually at the cattle market of Laissac-Sévérac-l'Église, in Aveyron. The profits from this flea market day are entirely donated to the LAM association. Individuals and bargain hunters meet from 6:30 AM to 6 PM on this emblematic site for a day of outdoor second-hand sales. Laissac-Sévérac-l'Église, a new commune created in 2016 in the Aveyron valley, is famous for its livestock market, the second largest in France. Every Tuesday, nearly 300 professionals gather there to trade cattle and sheep at the market, a major hub of agricultural trade whose fairs date back to 1422. For one Sunday, this market transforms into a vast open-air treasure hunting space, in service of a solidarity cause.
Every year in June, the LAM association organizes its charity car boot sale at the Place du Foirail bovins in Laissac-Sévérac-l'Église. The car boot sale takes place at the Place du Foirail bovins, an emblematic site of Aveyron's heritage. Every Tuesday morning, this market hosts the second largest livestock market in France, where nearly 300 breeders and traders exchange over 70,000 animals per year, including 50,000 cattle and 20,000 sheep. The Laissac fairs have been documented since 1422, and the tradition of the pache, that handshake sealing the sale between breeder and dealer, still endures today. For one Sunday, the livestock pens make way for flea market stalls, offering a unique and authentic backdrop for bargain hunters.
Laissac-Sévérac-l'Église, a new commune in Aveyron created on January 1, 2016, has about 2,250 inhabitants in the Aveyron valley, between Rodez and the Aubrac plateau. The village of Laissac houses remarkable archaeological heritage with the Montmerlhe oppidum, a Gallic fortified city of over 100 hectares occupied by the Ruthènes between the 2nd and 1st centuries BC. Notable monuments include the 16th-century Tour Rességuier and the Château de Maquefabes, a former mill from 1305 transformed into a castle in 1656. Sévérac-l'Église is distinguished by its Griffoul fountain, its semi-circular towers, and its ancient gates dating from 1569.
The car boot sale offers a wide variety of second-hand items at low prices, typical of rural Aveyron events:
The charitable nature of the event adds an extra motivation: each purchase directly contributes to funding the LAM association's activities. A warm and supportive atmosphere prevails at the market throughout the day.
