The Montbard Car Boot Sale: Treasure Hunting at the Foot of Buffon's Park

Every year in June, the Place de la Pépinière Royale in Montbard transforms into a vast space for treasure hunting and conviviality. Organized by the Twin Town Committees of Montbard, this annual car boot sale brings together private and professional exhibitors on this beautiful esplanade, at the foot of the famous Buffon's Park, one of the oldest botanical gardens in France.

An Exceptional Setting in Auxois

Montbard, a sub-prefecture of the Côte-d'Or, is inseparable from the figure of Buffon, the great 18th-century naturalist who developed his park and forges there. The Place de la Pépinière Royale, which derives its name from the former nursery created by Buffon himself, offers a tree-lined and spacious setting, ideal for setting up car boot sale stalls. The town, crossed by the Brenne river, charms with its architectural heritage and green spaces.

A Day of Family Treasure Hunting

From 8 am to 7 pm, visitors can browse the stalls offering a wide variety of items: crockery, clothing, toys, books, vinyl records, trinkets, and curiosities. Food and drink stands ensure that treasure hunters are catered for throughout the day. Nearby parking and public toilets facilitate the welcome of visitors from all over Auxois and the neighboring Châtillonnais region.
