Large car boot sale with 200 exhibitors in the Picassiette district of Chartres
The Car boot sale of Hauts de Chartres - Picassiette is one of the largest car boot sales in the Chartres urban area, with nearly 200 exhibitors. Organized every fourth Sunday of April by the Association Hauts de Chartres Animations, it takes over the Rue des Hauts de Chartres in the Picassiette district. Open from 6 am to 6 pm, this free event for visitors is a must-attend spring event in Chartres.
Every fourth Sunday of April, the Picassiette district of Chartres transforms into a huge open-air flea market. The Vide-Grenier des Hauts de Chartres - Picassiette, organized by the Association Hauts de Chartres Animations, welcomes nearly 200 exhibitors along the Rue des Hauts de Chartres, making it one of the busiest car boot sales in Eure-et-Loir. In 2026, the event is scheduled for Sunday, April 26th.
The Picassiette district gets its name from the famous Raymond Isidore, known as “Picassiette”, a resident of Chartres who, in the 20th century, completely decorated his house with mosaics made from broken crockery and glass. This house, nicknamed “Maison Picassiette”, is now a museum classified as a historic monument, an exceptional testament to outsider art and popular creativity. The car boot sale, in its own way, perpetuates the spirit of recovery and reuse that made this district famous.
With its approximately 200 exhibitors, the Hauts de Chartres car boot sale offers treasure hunters a very wide panorama of second-hand goods in Chartres. Clothing and fashion accessories, toys and old games, furniture and decoration, crockery and tableware, books and vinyl records, household appliances and tools: all categories are represented on the stalls of this large Sunday gathering. The diversity of exhibitors, from the Chartres districts as well as surrounding towns, guarantees a variety of finds.
The very early opening at 6:00 am is an opportunity for the most experienced treasure hunters to arrive early and find the best deals before the crowds arrive. The event continues until 6:00 pm, leaving visitors plenty of time to browse the many stalls at their leisure. Food and drink services are available on-site, allowing you to spend the whole day in a friendly and lively atmosphere.
The Vide-Grenier Hauts de Chartres - Picassiette is regularly listed among the unmissable flea market events in the 28 department. It attracts visitors every year not only from Chartres and its urban area, but also from other towns in Eure-et-Loir and Centre-Val de Loire. Its size, accessibility, and its anchoring in a historic district make it a popular spring event for all second-hand enthusiasts.
