Annual car boot sale in Catus, a village in the Bouriane quercynoise at the gates of Cahors
In Catus (46150), the main town of the Bouriane, the annual car boot sale is held on the Route des Écoles. This village of about 900 inhabitants, known for its 11th-century Romanesque priory, welcomes exhibitors and bargain hunters for a friendly outdoor day in this green setting of chestnut groves and Bouriane forests. Free entry.
Catus is a commune in the Lot (46150), the main town of the Bouriane, located about fifteen kilometers northwest of Cahors. This village of approximately 921 inhabitants (2023) occupies the bottom of the Vert valley, a stream that winds between the wooded hills of the Bouriane. A territory of sandy hills covered with chestnut groves, oaks, and mixed forests, the Bouriane is one of the greenest natural regions of the Lot.
The priory of Saint-Jean de Catus, founded in the 11th century by the Benedictine abbey of Saint-Michel de Cluse in Italy, has shaped the identity of the village. The Saint-Astier church, former priory chapel, houses sculpted Romanesque capitals, among the most beautiful in Quercy. The chapter house, with its columns and historiated capitals, is a jewel of Romanesque art in Quercy, open for visits. Catus benefits from an exceptional heritage and natural environment, making it a popular destination for walks for the inhabitants of Cahors and its surroundings.
The Catus car boot sale is held on the Route des Écoles, in a spacious and easily accessible area of the village. Private exhibitors and amateur second-hand dealers offer their items: clothing, books, toys, crockery, tools, furniture, and trinkets. The day starts early in the morning and continues until early evening, offering long hours of bargain hunting. Refreshments and light meals are available on site. Entry is free for all visitors.
Catus is located at the crossroads between the wooded Bouriane and the limestone causses of Quercy. The proximity of Cahors (capital of the Lot, 15 km away) facilitates access to the village while allowing it to retain its authentic rural character. Nature lovers will appreciate the chestnut forests, the marked hiking trails, and the panoramas of the Vert valley. The Dordogne River is only about forty kilometers to the west.
Catus is accessible from Cahors (D653, about 15 km southeast), from Gourdon (about 25 km west), and from Puy-l'Évêque (about 30 km west). Parking is available in the village.
The Catus car boot sale returns in May 2026, on the Route des Écoles. Free entry, refreshments on site in this village of the Bouriane at the gates of Cahors.
