Two days of hunting at the gateway of Ventoux, end of September
Malaucène sits between Mont Ventoux and the Dentelles de Montmirail, at the crossroads of the finest Vaucluse vineyards: Ventoux AOC, Gigondas, Vacqueyras, Beaumes-de-Venise, Côtes-du-Rhône Villages. Its historic centre, dominated by the 14th century bell tower, is crossed by one of Provence's loveliest plane-tree courses. At the end of September the Comité des Fêtes runs the great end-of-season brocante.
Two consecutive days, Saturday and Sunday, with exhibitors setting up at dawn. Stalls line the cours, squares and alleys. Marked pitches, refreshments, snacks, live music.
Mostly private sellers with a few local brocante professionals. Bric-à-brac, small antique furniture, Provençal decoration, faience, antique linen, records, books, clothing, toys, trinkets and the occasional more significant antique.
Friendly, Provençal, rooted in tradition yet welcoming. Holidaymakers extend their stay for it. Café terraces fill, local producers sometimes sell wine, oil and honey alongside.
Malaucène is an ideal base: northern ascent of Mont Ventoux, Gigondas and Vacqueyras cellars, Dentelles de Montmirail hikes, Groseau spring and chapel.
