Grand flea market on August 15th by the river, with artisan market, fairground rides and local food
Every August 15th, the riverbank of Saint-Préjet-d'Allier hosts a large flea market and summer festival organized by the Foyer J.E.P. Around 100 exhibitors with free pitches offer flea market items, antiques, and crafts. Fairground rides, a local produce market, and an aligot-saucisse meal at €15/€7 complete this festive day in the Gorges de l'Allier.
Saint-Préjet-d'Allier is a charming village in Haute-Loire, located in the majestic Gorges de l'Allier, this wild canyon carved by the river over millennia. Every August 15th, for the Assumption Day holiday, the village's riverbank transforms into a vast popular festival ground attracting visitors from all over Haute-Loire and neighboring departments.
The chosen location—the banks of the Allier—is one of the most beautiful natural settings in Haute-Loire for an outdoor event. The deep gorges, the lively and clear river, the basalt cliffs: the setting is worthy of the event. The flea market brings together around 100 exhibitors, who benefit from completely free pitches, a rare generosity that encourages participation from amateurs and professionals alike. From 6 a.m., the first stalls are set up to welcome bargain hunters throughout the day.
In addition to the flea market, an artisan market brings together local creators and producers from Haute-Loire. Ceramics, textiles, jewelry, regional gastronomic products: the artisans of the Allier region take advantage of this exceptional August 15th crowd to showcase their know-how. Auvergne's local products are particularly represented: cheeses, cured meats, honeys, jams, and wines.
Children are not forgotten: fairground rides are set up for the day, creating the funfair atmosphere characteristic of large popular events. The laughter of children on the carousels and swings contributes to the festive ambiance of this day, which resembles an amplified village festival.
The gastronomic highlight of the day is undoubtedly the local food meal offered under a tent by the Foyer J.E.P. (Jeunes en Pays de l'Allier). On the menu: aligot, this emblematic dish from Aubrac and Haute-Loire, made from mashed potatoes and fresh tomme cheese, served with grilled sausage. The price is €15 for adults and €7 for children. This communal meal under the tent, in the heat of August, is one of the day's highlights.
The Grande Fête d'Été and Foire à la Brocante of Saint-Préjet-d'Allier returns on August 15, 2026, by the Allier river. ~100 free exhibitors, artisan market, fairground rides, aligot-saucisse €15/€7 organized by the Foyer J.E.P.
