Every Saturday, from dawn, the Esplanade des Arènes in Sommières transforms into a vast open-air flea market. The Grande Brocante hebdomadaire brings together around 100 exhibitors each week, both professionals and private individuals, who offer antiques, furniture, tableware, books, vinyl records, trinkets, and old objects in the purest flea market tradition.

An exceptional setting in the heart of the medieval city

Sommières is one of the most beautiful medieval cities in the Gard. Dominated by its royal castle and crossed by the Vidourle, the city preserves an extraordinary ancient Roman bridge partially inhabited since the Middle Ages – a unique feature in Europe. The Esplanade des Arènes, a large square shaded by century-old plane trees, runs along the river and leads to the old arena, forming an ideal setting for strolling among the stalls.

A quality flea market, open to all

Exhibitor setup begins every Saturday at 5:30 AM. The 6m x 4m pitches are offered at €20, and the sale of new clothing, electrical appliances, and merchandise not in keeping with the flea market spirit is strictly prohibited. Lovers of fine finds appreciate the quality of the selection: antique furniture, ceramics, lighting, curiosities, and collector's items are all present. Entry is completely free for visitors.

Sommières, Gard's capital of flea markets

Sommières is recognized as one of the major flea market destinations in Languedoc. The city hosts three major quarterly editions concurrently, bringing together around 400 exhibitors in April, July, August, and October. The trading tradition here is ancient: since the 13th century, markets and fairs have been the economic engine of the city, located on the Roman road connecting Nîmes to Toulouse.
