Summer sale of downtown Bastia merchants organized by the Union des Commerçants Bastiais, in June
Every year in June, the Union des Commerçants Bastiais organizes its summer sale in the shopping streets of downtown Bastia. Shops display their racks and sale items on the sidewalks, creating a lively open-air shopping gallery. Clothing, shoes, accessories, and seasonal items are offered at reduced prices, attracting Bastia residents and tourists looking for bargains.
Every year in June, the shopping streets of downtown Bastia (20200) transform into a large open-air sale space. The Union des Commerçants Bastiais — which represents over 150 independent merchants and brands in the city center — organizes this summer sale, allowing shops to offer their items with significant discounts before the start of the high tourist season.
During the sale days, merchants bring out their racks, stands, and displays onto the sidewalks of the main streets in the city center: rue César Campinchi, rue Napoléon, and their adjacent alleys become a long, lively shopping gallery. Clothing, shoes, fashion accessories, sports equipment, leather goods, decorations, and many other categories are represented, with discounts ranging from 20% to 70%.
The Union des Commerçants Bastiais (UCB) is the main association representing the merchants of downtown Bastia. Supported by the City of Bastia, the CCI of Corsica, the CAB (Communauté d'Agglomération de Bastia), and the Sporting Club de Bastia, it represents over 150 merchants and artisans in the city center. Among its key annual events are the June sale, the August summer sale, and holiday season events.
The June sale differs from the August one by its timing at the beginning of the season: it takes place before the main holidays, when tourists begin to flock to the island, and allows merchants to clear their spring stock while boosting foot traffic in the city center.
Bastia is the largest city in Corsica with approximately 45,000 inhabitants and the island's economic capital. Its historic city center, structured around the Old Port and Place Saint-Nicolas, has a dense and varied commercial fabric. Rue César Campinchi and its parallel streets form Bastia's main pedestrian shopping street, lively all year round and particularly busy during the summer season.
The port of Bastia, one of France's busiest passenger ports with connections to Marseille, Nice, Toulon, Genoa, Livorno, and Savona, generates a significant flow of visitors from the beginning of June. The June sale takes advantage of this growing influx to offer visitors and residents a festive shopping experience in the heart of the city.
Beyond simple commercial promotions, the June sale is an opportunity for genuine city center entertainment. Cafes and restaurants in the surrounding area liven up their terraces, ambient music sometimes plays in the streets, and the crowd of shoppers creates a joyful and friendly atmosphere. It is one of the first major events of the Bastia summer season, before the many festivals and events that punctuate July and August.
The summer sale of Bastia merchants returns in June 2026 in the shopping streets of the city center. Outdoor racks, sale items, free admission. Organized by the Union des Commerçants Bastiais (UCB).
