Every Sunday morning from 7 am to 1 pm on the largest square in Europe, in the heart of Bastia
Every Sunday from 7 am to 1 pm, Bastia's Place Saint-Nicolas hosts a flea market with about thirty exhibitors, mixing professionals and individuals. Antique furniture, collector's items, postcards, books, trinkets, and second-hand goods are displayed on this vast space facing the sea, in the historic heart of the capital of Haute-Corse.
Every Sunday morning, from 7 am to 1 pm, Bastia's famous Place Saint-Nicolas transforms into a flea market and car boot sale popular with locals and visitors alike. With around 30 exhibitors, this weekly event brings together professional bargain hunters and individuals looking to give their items a second life. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, bathed in Mediterranean light and the salty air of Bastia's port.
The stalls offer a wide variety of items: antique furniture and furnishings, crockery and porcelain, silverware, old postcards from Corsica and elsewhere, collectible books and magazines, trinkets and curiosities, vintage clothing, tools, and all sorts of everyday objects from the past. For lovers of old Corsica, postcards and historical documents related to the island are particularly well represented. To set up as an exhibitor, you need to ask Sauveur upon arrival to get your form and your spot.
Place Saint-Nicolas is one of Corsica's most emblematic public spaces. With its 300 meters long and 90 meters wide, it is often cited as one of the largest squares in France and Europe. Lined with plane trees and palm trees, facing the Tyrrhenian Sea, it offers an exceptional setting for a Sunday stroll. The square is adorned with a war memorial and a famous statue of Napoleon in Roman emperor's attire, an unmissable landmark for walkers.
It serves as the starting point for many tourist routes in the city and remains, all year round, a place for gathering and social life for the people of Bastia. Terraced cafes, a newsstand, pΓ©tanque games in the morning: Place Saint-Nicolas embodies the Mediterranean art of living of the capital of Haute-Corse. The Sunday flea market fits perfectly into this dynamic, offering strollers an additional reason to linger.
Bastia is the largest city in Corsica with nearly 45,000 inhabitants. Founded by the Genoese in the 14th century around the citadel (the bastiglia which gave it its name), it is now the island's main commercial and passenger port, with regular connections to the mainland. The old town β Terra Nova (the citadel) and Terra Vecchia (the old port) β boasts remarkable architectural heritage: Saint-Jean-Baptiste church, baroque oratories, Genoese Governors' palaces. The Sunday flea market is an excellent way to begin exploring this rich historic center.
In 2026, the Sunday flea market at Place Saint-Nicolas resumes every Sunday from 7 am to 1 pm. ~30 exhibitors, free entry, facing the sea in the heart of Bastia, Haute-Corse.
