On 1 May 2026, Place de la République hosts the flea market paired with this emblematic Comtat pastoral tradition. At 10.30 am, an antique cart parade crosses the village, with sheep, shepherds and Provençal costumes. A unique festive day in Vaucluse.
A pastoral festival rooted in tradition
The Beaumes-de-Venise Transhumance Festival is one of the most emblematic events in the Vaucluse cultural calendar. Held every 1 May by the town and the Transhumance Committee, it celebrates the symbolic ascent of flocks to high pastures on Mont Ventoux and the Baronnies.
The cart parade, the festival's highlight
The 2026 programme includes, at 10.30 am, the famous antique cart parade crossing the village, pulled by donkeys and draught horses. Shepherds in costume, sheep, herding dogs and folk groups in Provençal dress create a living spectacle.
A flea market at the heart of the festival
The flea market sets up in Place de la République, the village's historic core. Stalls feature traditional Comtat bric-a-brac alongside evocative rural objects: antique farming tools, cattle bells, Provençal pottery and antique linen.
