Annual spring flea market on the communal field, in the heart of the Bassée plain
The Bazoches-lès-Bray Flea Market is a spring event held every April on the communal field of this small village in the Seine-et-Marne Bassée plain. Local vendors and bargain hunters from the surroundings gather for a day of conviviality in this rural setting, a few kilometers from Bray-sur-Seine and Montereau. An opportunity to stock up on good deals while discovering a quiet corner of the department.
Every year at the end of April, Bazoches-lès-Bray opens its communal field to the vendors of the annual flea market. This event, awaited by residents and bargain hunters from neighboring communes, reflects the vitality of a small rural village that makes this event one of the highlights of its calendar. Individuals and hunters cross paths in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, where the pleasure of encounter often matters more than the market value of items.
Bazoches-lès-Bray is a rural commune in southeastern Seine-et-Marne, located in the Bassée, the alluvial plain crossed by the Seine that stretches to the edges of the Aube department. Near Bray-sur-Seine, the historic capital of the region, Bazoches cultivates its calm and rurality. With a few hundred inhabitants, it offers the image of a preserved Seine-et-Marne, where people still take time to live and exchange. The church, the old farms and the surrounding countryside compose an authentic landscape, far from the bustle of the Paris region.
Unlike many flea markets that take over the streets of a village, the one in Bazoches is held on the communal field: a dedicated, well-organized space that comfortably accommodates vendors and visitors. You'll find the usual range of items: furniture, tableware, linens, clothes, toys, books, trinkets, tools and small appliances. The rural nature of the commune means you sometimes also find more original pieces: old farm tools, objects linked to farm life, sturdy tableware of yesteryear, barn furniture.
The spirit in Bazoches is that of authentic village flea markets: no jostling, no overpriced items, just the simple pleasure of hunting and exchanges. Vendors take time to chat, to tell the story of certain objects, to haggle with a smile. Visitors stroll, stop at a stall, leave and come back later. It's also an opportunity for villagers to meet their neighbors and for people from surrounding communes to connect in a pleasant setting.
The Seine valley and the Bassée offer many attractions to extend the day. Bray-sur-Seine, a few kilometers away, is a lovely small town with its Gothic church and peaceful riverbanks. Nature lovers will head to the Bassée Nature Reserve, classified Natura 2000, to observe local wildlife, especially water birds. Montereau-Fault-Yonne, a historic town at the confluence of the Seine and Yonne, also deserves a visit.
Arrive early to enjoy the best pieces. Bring cash and a sturdy bag. Parking is right next to the communal field. Consider a hat if the day is sunny, as the space is outdoors.
