A festive 23rd edition in the heart of Lalique country

The Firefighters' Garage Sale in Wingen-sur-Moder has become over the years an essential spring event in the north of Bas-Rhin. For its 23rd edition on 10 May 2026, the Firefighters' Association once again sets up the event on Rue de la Gare, opening as early as 6am for early birds, with around a hundred private exhibitors unpacking in the street. Bargain hunters find everything: furniture, crockery, trinkets, clothing, old books, vinyl records, second-hand toys, tools, decorations and all kinds of curiosities. The refreshment stand, run by the firefighters and their families, offers drinks, grilled food and Alsatian specialities throughout the day. The proceeds from this event support the social, cultural and sports activities of the Firefighters' Association, illustrating the essential social role played by volunteer firefighters in Alsatian villages.

Wingen-sur-Moder, world capital of Lalique crystal

Wingen-sur-Moder is an emblematic village of the Northern Vosges Regional Nature Park, famous worldwide as the historic home of the Lalique crystal works. It is in this village of 1,600 inhabitants that René Lalique, the legendary master glassmaker and jeweller of the Art Nouveau and Art Deco movements, founded his glassworks in 1921, which still brings international renown to the region. The Lalique Museum, inaugurated in 2011, attracts visitors from around the world each year to admire the creations of this legendary house. Located on the border between Bas-Rhin and Moselle, in the heart of a preserved forest region, Wingen-sur-Moder cultivates a strong identity between exceptional industrial heritage, Alsatian traditions and the wild nature of the Northern Vosges, classified as a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve.
