Flea market and car boot sale during the Fête du Pâté Lorrain in Baccarat
The flea market and car boot sale of the Fête du Pâté Lorrain are held every year on the second Sunday of September in Baccarat, as part of this popular festival that celebrates the pâté lorrain, an emblematic gastronomic specialty of the region. Organized by the Comité des Fêtes in partnership with the town of Baccarat, this event combines treasure hunting, gastronomy, and festive entertainment in the heart of the crystal city.
Every September, the town of Baccarat celebrates its gastronomic specialty with the Fête du Pâté Lorrain, a popular event that attracts thousands of visitors. Sunday is dedicated to a large flea market and car boot sale that take over the streets of the town center, offering treasure hunters an exceptional setting in the city world-renowned for its crystal. This festival, which is over fifty years old, is one of the most popular events in the Lunéville area.
Baccarat is a commune in Meurthe-et-Moselle located in the Meurthe valley, famous worldwide for its crystal factory founded in 1764. In addition to crystal, the town cultivates its Lorraine gastronomic traditions, including the famous pâté lorrain, a puff pastry pie filled with pork and veal marinated in white wine, which has been the pride of the city for generations. The Crystal Museum, located in the former residence of the crystal factory directors, is also worth a visit.
The festival takes place over two days. Saturday evening is dedicated to musical and dance entertainment under the Baccarat bridge, with refreshments, food, and fireworks on the banks of the Meurthe around 9:30 PM. On Sunday, the large flea market and car boot sale liven up the streets all day long. The highlight is at 11 AM with the parade of the giant pâté lorrain in the town center, followed by a tasting under the bridge. At 5:30 PM, the traditional contest for the biggest eater of pâté lorrain entertains the spectators.
The Fête du Pâté Lorrain is much more than just a flea market: it is a celebration of culinary traditions and the Lorraine art of living. Volunteers from the Comité des Fêtes ensure catering with sales of small pâtés lorrains on site, while the orchestra entertains the afternoon under the historic bridge of the town. To register as an exhibitor at the Sunday flea market, simply contact the committee at 06 38 25 84 94 or register on site on the day.
