"Pas un Radis": The Donation Economy in Porticcio

Every second Sunday of the month, from 9 am to 12 pm, the parking lot of the Porticcio college transforms into a meeting and exchange point centered around donations. Organized by the ASCP Rive Sud association (Association Sportive et Culturelle de Porticcio Rive Sud), the "Pas un Radis" Donation Festival offers an original alternative to traditional car boot sales: here, everything is free. Donors and beneficiaries set up like at a market and freely exchange objects, clothes, books, toys, and various items.

The initiative, launched and managed by Guy Lepoint, president of ASCP Rive Sud, follows the trend of online donation groups. Its originality lies in being an in-person event, allowing for real encounters between donors and beneficiaries: a true moment of warm and inclusive social connection within the community of Porticcio and the Rive Sud.

Promising Beginnings

From its very first editions, the Porticcio Donation Festival has been a great success. During the second edition, about twenty donors set up their items, and around one hundred participants came to join the exchange. The formula—free, friendly, no intermediaries—appealed to families wanting to give their items a second life as well as to people looking to supplement their equipment at a lower cost.

The event helps create social bonds in this seaside town, whose permanent population is sometimes less visible than the summer crowds. By organizing this monthly event outside the peak season, ASCP Rive Sud keeps Porticcio vibrant throughout the year.

Porticcio and the Municipality of Grosseto-Prugna

Porticcio is the main seaside resort of the municipality of Grosseto-Prugna, on the south bank of the Gulf of Ajaccio. While the resort is very active during the high tourist season (June-September), its permanent population remains active the rest of the year. The Porticcio college, whose parking lot hosts the Donation Festival, is a key facility for the local community. Its large space is ideal for hosting such a friendly event.
