Large May Day flea market on Place Denfert-Rochereau in Saint-Maixent-l'École
Saint-Maixent-l'École, historic sub-prefecture of Deux-Sèvres nestled in the Sèvre Niortaise valley, celebrates May Day each year with its Fête des Allées and a large flea market on Place Denfert-Rochereau. Organized by the RIFE association, this spring event brings together around 75 private exhibitors and attracts hundreds of visitors.
Saint-Maixent-l'École possesses remarkable heritage: the Saint-Maixent abbey church, a jewel of Romanesque and Gothic Poitevin art, the remains of the infantry military school that gave the town its name, the medieval lanes of the old centre and the shaded banks of the Sèvre Niortaise.
The flea market takes place on Place Denfert-Rochereau in Saint-Maixent-l'École, from 6am to 7pm. About 75 exhibitors. Pitch: €3 per linear meter. Refreshments and food on site. Free entry.
