A race like no other
Amidst Provençal festivals often focused on religious or agricultural traditions, La Bastide stands out with a completely offbeat event: its Customised Wheelbarrow Race. Each year in May, teams prepare their wheelbarrow, decorate it creatively, choose matching costumes and set off down the village course.
The concept
A parade-competition through village streets. Each team prepares a decorated wheelbarrow (or wheelbarrow-inspired vehicle). The jury rewards sporting performance as well as originality, humour and team spirit.
