Back-to-school bargain hunting at the foot of the tuff cliffs
Nestled against a striking tuff cliff, Cotignac is one of Provence's most spectacular villages. Its plane-lined cours, mossy fountain, colourful facades and former troglodyte castle make it a flagship destination of the upper Var. It is here that the flea market of 6 September 2026 takes place.
September is back-to-school time for Var bargain hunters: holidaymakers have left, temperatures ease, and village exhibitors finally open their attics. The feel is more authentic than in summer, calmer, leaving room for real exchanges between locals and visitors.
Beyond the stalls, Cotignac is worth the trip: the Cascade waterfall and open-air theatre, the old castle, Notre-Dame-de-Grâces where Louis XIV came on pilgrimage, and the local wine cellars. Several restaurants and caveaux allow the morning to extend in a gourmet and Provençal spirit.
The September Sunday flea market is known for its friendliness. Moderate turnout, relaxed pace and often remarkable finds when families bring out heirlooms. A must for lovers of authentic inland Var bargain hunting.
