The major spring chine in southern Vienne
Each spring, Champagné-Saint-Hilaire hosts its grand flea market and brocante — a major event drawing sellers and chineurs from across southern Vienne. 2025 edition 25 May 2025; 2026 edition confirmed Sunday 10 May 2026. Mix of private sellers and professionals. Free entry.
Champagné-Saint-Hilaire is in the southern Vienne, in the Clain valley between Vivonne and Gençay. Around 1,200 inhabitants, a preserved rural setting by the river. Its grand flea market and brocante is a top spring chine event in the southern department. 2025: Sunday 25 May 2025. 2026: Sunday 10 May 2026, confirmed on brocabrac.fr.
Unlike small village flea markets with a few dozen sellers, Champagné-Saint-Hilaire is wider: many stalls across several village streets, a mix of private sellers (vide-grenier) and professionals (brocante), strong turnout throughout the day. This hybrid format makes it popular: variety, comparison, more of an event than a simple market.
Particularly appreciated by serious chineurs who can day-trip from Poitiers, Châtellerault or neighbouring Charente. The scope allows a full half-day without monotony. Brocante pros travel from the whole region, bringing pieces unseen at regular flea markets.
The commune is crossed by the Clain river, offering riverside landscapes and walks. Village heritage includes a Romanesque church and typical old houses. Southern Vienne — between Vivonne, Gençay, Civray, Couhé — has preserved rural character, rolling landscape and characterful villages.
Arrive at opening (7-8 am) for top finds, especially from the professional dealers. Bring a sturdy bag and small-denomination cash. Food on site (bar, fast food) for a full day.
