Car boot sale in Castelnou, one of the Most Beautiful Villages of France, at the foot of the Canigou in the Catalan Aspres
The Castelnou Car Boot Sale takes place at the Aire de Frênes, a shaded area located below the medieval village. From 7 AM to 4:30 PM, private exhibitors offer bargain hunters their treasures: clothes, toys, books, tableware, trinkets, small furniture, decorative items, vinyl records, costume jewelry and curiosities. The originality of this event lies in its setting: after browsing the stalls, visitors can climb the cobbled streets of the village and admire its exceptional medieval heritage. On-site catering with drinks and snacks extends the day pleasantly.
Classified among the Most Beautiful Villages of France, Castelnou is a 10th-century fortified medieval village that seems frozen in time. Dominated by its imposing viscounty castle, a fortress built around 990 by the viscounts of Castelnou, the village displays its stone houses around the church of Santa Maria del Mercadal. The cobbled alleys, arcades, craftsmen and remains of the ramparts compose a picture of unrivaled charm.
Castelnou is at the heart of the Aspres region, a Catalan mid-mountain territory stretching between the Roussillon plain and the foothills of the Canigou. This arid land with a Mediterranean climate is characterized by its maquis hills, cork oaks and vineyards. For car boot sale visitors, the setting offers total immersion in the Catalan soul, with the imposing silhouette of the Canigou in the background.
