Thuir, capital of the Aspres and cradle of Byrrh

Thuir, capital of the Aspres region at the foot of the Pyrenees, is a former royal city marked by a rich commercial and craft history. Before the Revolution, Thuir was renowned for its papermaking, printing, and pottery. But it is Byrrh, an aperitif created in 1866 by the brothers Simon and Pallade Violet, textile merchants from Corsavy, that gave the town its international fame.
