Thuir, capital of the Aspres region at the foot of the Pyrenees, is a former royal city marked by a rich commercial and craft history. Before the Revolution, Thuir was renowned for its papermaking, printing, and pottery. But it is Byrrh, an aperitif created in 1866 by the brothers Simon and Pallade Violet, textile merchants from Corsavy, that gave the town its international fame. The Byrrh Cellars notably house the world's largest oak wine vat, with a capacity of one million liters, among 800 vats that age the traditional aperitif made from fortified wine and aromatic plants.
Beyond Byrrh, Thuir has a rich heritage: the Notre-Dame-de-la-Victoire Church built in 1785 on the foundations of a Romanesque church, two 19th-century castles (Château des Rosiers and Château de Saü) built by the Violet family, and a historical town center that preserves the traces of its royal city past. The Retrovintage pop-up shop sale is part of this commercial and heritage dynamic, offering visitors a unique experience combining vintage bargain hunting and discovery of the Catalan soul of the Aspres.
Second 2026 edition of the Retrovintage pop-up shop sale in Thuir, Sunday, March 29, 2026 from 8:30 am to 1 pm. -50% on all vintage items.
