Large outdoor car boot sale in the heart of Marboz village
The car boot sale of the Sou des Écoles de Marboz is one of the flagship events of spring in Bresse de l'Ain. Organized every second Sunday in April, it brings together between 200 and 300 private sellers in the village streets, offering visitors an exceptional treasure hunting experience. Entry is free and refreshments and food are available from the parents' association stand in a friendly and family atmosphere.
Every spring, the peaceful village of Marboz transforms for a day into a huge open-air car boot sale. Organized by the Sou des Écoles, this charity event for school activities attracts hundreds of sellers and thousands of visitors from all over Bresse and beyond.
The scale of this car boot sale is impressive: between 200 and 300 individuals set up their stalls along Rue en Posard and adjacent streets, creating a remarkably long treasure hunting route. Clothes, toys, books, crockery, furniture, garden tools, trinkets, and vintage items are found from stall to stall. The pitch price, set at 2.50 euros per linear meter, remains very affordable.
Marboz, a commune belonging to the Grand Bourg-en-Bresse agglomeration community, retains the charm of Bressan villages with its half-timbered farms and remarkable church. The event takes over the town center, easily accessible from Bourg-en-Bresse, about ten kilometers away. Parking is free and traffic is organized to facilitate visitor access.
The Marboz car boot sale perpetuates the tradition of large Bressan 'farfouilles' (rummages), these popular gatherings where people empty attics, cellars, and wardrobes for the greatest pleasure of bargain hunters. Bresse de l'Ain, a land of traditions and gastronomy, provides fertile ground for this type of event, as the inhabitants have always cultivated a taste for sharing, celebration, and good humor. Don't miss tasting the specialties offered at the Sou des Écoles refreshment stand.
The event opens its doors from 5 am, for both sellers and early birds looking for the best deals. The day continues until 6 pm. Entry is free. Volunteers from the Sou des Écoles provide catering and refreshments throughout the day, offering cold drinks and local specialties to regain strength between treasure hunting sessions.
