Car boot sale of May 8th in the residential area of Saint-Jacques-de-la-Lande, south of Rennes
Every year on May 8th, a public holiday, Saint-Jacques-de-la-Lande organizes its car boot sale in the streets of the town. Private sellers set up their stalls with clothes, toys, furniture, tableware, books, trinkets, and all sorts of items. Located at the southern gateway to Rennes, the town attracts both local residents and bargain hunters from the entire Rennes area, taking advantage of the public holiday to find good deals.
A town of over 14,000 inhabitants bordering Rennes to the south, Saint-Jacques-de-la-Lande has undergone a spectacular transformation in recent decades. The arrival of the metro (line b) and major urban development projects have given new life to this town, which also hosts the Rennes airport. Despite this modernization, the town retains peaceful residential areas and an active neighborhood life, of which the car boot sales are emblematic events.
Entry is free, and refreshments and food are available on-site. The outdoor setting of the residential streets offers a pleasant environment for strolling between the stalls, in the relaxed atmosphere of a spring public holiday.
