Car boot sale organized by the parents' association of the Jean Macé school in Mérignac
Every spring, the APEI (Independent Parents' Association) of the Jean Macé school in Mérignac organizes a car boot sale in the schoolyard and its surroundings. This annual event brings together neighborhood families around stalls mainly offering children's clothing, toys, children's books, childcare equipment (strollers, car seats, travel cots), and various items. It's an opportunity for parents to clear out their children's rooms while funding school activities.
The profits from stall rentals and the sale of drinks and cakes are entirely donated to the educational projects of the Jean Macé school: school trips, purchase of educational materials, shows, and cultural activities. The APEI mobilizes many volunteers among the parents to ensure the organization, setup of stalls, and running of the refreshment stand. Homemade cakes by parents are a tradition appreciated by visitors.
The Jean Macé elementary school is located in a residential area of Mérignac. The establishment, named after the famous pedagogue founder of the Ligue de l'enseignement, welcomes several hundred students. The annual car boot sale has become a highlight of the school's life, strengthening ties between families and contributing to the neighborhood's vibrancy.
