The traditional meeting of May 1st and Ascension Day at the Foirail de la Madeleine, a medieval fortified town in Aveyron
The Car Boot Sale, Flower and Car Market of Villefranche-de-Rouergue is a major popular event organized by the Judo Cultures association at the Foirail de la Madeleine, avenue du 8 Mai 1945. A traditional meeting point for May 1st and Ascension Thursday, this event combines a vast car boot sale with up to 300 exhibitors, a flower and plant market, and a used car market. From 7 am to 6 pm, under the covered hall of the foirail and in the outdoor areas, bargain hunters, amateur gardeners, and car buyers mingle in a festive and family atmosphere. Food and drink available on-site with fries, sausages, sandwiches, crepes, and the traditional tripe meal served from 8 am. Entry is free for visitors in this royal 13th-century fortified town, labeled a City of Art and History.
Each year, the Foirail de la Madeleine in Villefranche-de-Rouergue hosts one of the largest outdoor events in northern Aveyron: the Car Boot Sale, Flower and Car Market. Organized by the Judo Cultures association, this traditional gathering takes place twice a year, on May 1st and Ascension Thursday, attracting thousands of visitors and up to 300 exhibitors on avenue du 8 Mai 1945. This triple event is a highlight of local life in Villefranche, combining flea market finds, gardening, and the car market in a friendly space.
The unique aspect of this event is the coexistence of three complementary worlds. The car boot sale, open to both individuals and professionals, offers a wide range of items: tableware and table arts, books and vinyl records, clothing and accessories, toys, trinkets, small furniture, and tools. The flower market allows amateur gardeners to find plants, shrubs, seasonal flowers, and floral arrangements, perfectly suited for spring planting. Finally, the used car market provides a dedicated space for private car sales, a tradition rooted in the fair culture of Aveyron.
The Foirail de la Madeleine is the iconic venue for major commercial gatherings in Villefranche-de-Rouergue. This large covered hall, located on avenue du 8 Mai 1945, has an indoor sheltered space and adjacent outdoor grounds that can accommodate large-scale events. Pitches are available for €10 for 5 linear meters outdoors and €12 for 5 meters under the covered foirail, accessible rates that ensure massive participation. Registration is done by postal mail to the Judo Cultures association with a form, check, and ID photocopy.
Villefranche-de-Rouergue is a royal fortified town founded in 1252 by Alphonse de Poitiers, brother of King Saint Louis, on the banks of the Aveyron River. Its perfectly preserved grid layout, organized around the majestic Place Notre-Dame lined with medieval arcades, makes it one of the most beautiful fortified towns in southwestern France. Labeled a City of Art and History, the town has eleven classified historical monuments, including the imposing Collégiale Notre-Dame and its 58-meter bell tower that dominates the city, as well as the Chartreuse Saint-Sauveur, a jewel of flamboyant Gothic architecture. Visiting the car boot sale at the Foirail de la Madeleine is also an opportunity to stroll through the medieval streets and under the century-old arcades of this exceptional fortified town.
The Judo Cultures association provides food and drink services throughout the day, from 7 am to 6 pm. Visitors can enjoy fries, sausages, sandwiches, and crepes on-site, as well as the traditional tripe meal served from 8 am, a must-try of Rouergat gastronomy that sets the tone for a resolutely festive day. The refreshment stand offers cold and hot drinks to accompany this morning of bargain hunting and discoveries.
The event takes place from 7 am to 6 pm at the Foirail de la Madeleine, avenue du 8 Mai 1945, in Villefranche-de-Rouergue. Exhibitor setup begins at 6 am. Entry is free for visitors.
