Car boot sale on August 30-31 during the Fête Votive of La Canourgue, organized by the Comité des Fêtes, with funfair attractions (48500)
The Fête Votive de La Canourgue (48500) is one of the liveliest in the Lozère department. Organized by the Comité des Fêtes de la Canourgue, it takes place every late August over several days, around August 30 and 31.
At the heart of this village festival, a car boot sale is organized in the town, particularly in the Place du Blé and Place du Portalou, allowing individuals to display their second-hand items. The event is part of a larger festive program including: funfair attractions, a shared meal in the public square, a giant raffle, a pétanque tournament, and a dance evening. Entry to the activities is free.
This car boot sale of the Fête Votive is distinct from the flea market organized by the Foyer Rural, also held in August in La Canourgue. La Canourgue is a charming medieval town built on a basalt promontory, crossed by the Vioulou, a stream that once powered many mills. Its lauze-roofed houses, canals, and arcades earn it the nickname 'Little Venice of Lozère'.
La Canourgue is a town of about 2,000 inhabitants, a canton capital, located on the Causse de Sauveterre, between Mende and Millau. Its medieval canals, fed by the Vioulou, run along paved alleys and houses made of black and golden stone. This unique heritage attracts many visitors each summer, who can notably take advantage of the fête votive to discover the historic center.
