The car boot sale of the fête votive of Banassac-Canilhac, Place de l'Église, with traditional aligot
On the occasion of its July fête votive, Banassac-Canilhac organizes its car boot sale on the Place de l'Église. The 28th edition brings together 79 exhibitors for a festive day combining treasure hunting and gastronomy: aligot, an emblematic specialty from Lozère, is on the program to delight all participants around a convivial meal.
Every July, on the occasion of its fête votive, Banassac-Canilhac organizes its traditional car boot sale on the Place de l'Église. The 28th edition brings together 79 exhibitors who take over the village's central square to offer their second-hand items in a popular festive atmosphere.
Clothes, toys, crockery, books, tools, trinkets, and objects of all kinds are piled on tables and tablecloths. Curious treasure hunters of all ages browse the aisles in search of the rare find, while the atmosphere of the fête votive adds an extra festive dimension to the event.
What undoubtedly distinguishes this car boot sale from all others is the aligot tasting offered during the event. Aligot is the star dish of Lozère and Auvergne gastronomy: a mashed potato dish with fresh tomme cheese, worked until it becomes stringy and creamy, traditionally served during village festivals.
This convivial meal around a large pot of aligot transforms the car boot sale into a true popular festival, true to the traditions of the Gévaudan and the Lot valley.
Banassac-Canilhac (48500) is a commune in the Lot valley, resulting from the merger of Banassac and Canilhac. Its territory extends between the hillsides and the river, offering varied landscapes and deeply rooted rural traditions. The Place de l'Église is the social heart of the village, naturally designated to host collective festive moments.
