Every year on August 13th, the village of Cagnano (20228) organizes its annual car boot sale at Ortale, the hamlet where the town hall is located. This summer event, with a human scale and a maximum of 20 spots, offers an intimate and authentic setting in the heart of Cap Corse, far from the hustle and bustle of large trade fairs.
From 8 am to 6 pm, exhibitors and visitors gather for a day of bargain hunting at the tranquil pace of the village. Individuals clear out their attics and offer all sorts of everyday items for sale: clothes, books, toys, dishes, tools, and various curiosities. Exhibitor setup begins as early as 7 am, allowing stands to be ready by opening time. Entry is free for visitors.
Cagnano is a commune in Haute-Corse (2B) located in the micro-region of Cap Corse, the peninsula stretching north from Bastia. The municipal territory, extending from the sea to an altitude of 350 meters, comprises nine hamlets—including Ortale, Carbonacce, Suare, Ghilloni, Adamo, Piazze, Terre Rosse—as well as a coastal village, Porticciolo, on the eastern coast of the Cap.
The commune has approximately 172 permanent residents (2020 census) over an area of 1,472 hectares. Its history is rich: traces of occupation dating back to the Iron Age (around 500 BC) have been discovered, and Cap Corse was dominated in the Middle Ages by the powerful lords of Oveglia, whose castles still dot the peninsula's landscape.
Held in the middle of August, the Cagnano car boot sale benefits from the summer tourist influx to Cap Corse. The Cap Corse peninsula attracts thousands of visitors each summer who come to discover its vineyards, Genoese towers, coves, and perched villages. The road along the Cap—sometimes on the Tyrrhenian Sea side, sometimes on the Ligurian Sea side—is traveled by many holidaymakers, some of whom willingly stop for an authentic village car boot sale.
The setting of the car boot sale, in the hamlet of Ortale where the town hall is located, offers a characteristic panorama of Corsican architecture: stone houses, narrow streets, shaded gardens. It's the ideal opportunity to stroll, chat with locals, and find some treasures among the exhibitors' stalls.
As the number of spots is limited to 20 pitches, it is essential to register in advance by phone. Vehicles are allowed at the pitch, facilitating the transport of items for sale. The cost of a pitch is 10 euros. Entry is free for visitors.
The Cagnano car boot sale returns on August 13th, 2026, in Ortale (Cap Corse). Twenty pitches for individuals, 8 am-6 pm, 10 euros per pitch, registration by phone. Free entry for visitors.
