When old-fashioned harvesting meets car boot sales in Gâtine
Every first Sunday in August, the peaceful village of Thénezay in the Gâtine area of Deux-Sèvres comes alive for its Harvest Festival, a unique event combining a popular car boot sale with living agricultural heritage. The association Les Mémoires Agricoles Thénezéennes organises this festive day at La Roche, along the D141 departmental road.
Between 50 and 100 exhibitors, mainly private individuals, set out their stands in a green, rural setting. You'll find the classic car boot sale mix: clothing, toys, crockery, books, ornaments, small furniture and decorative items.
The uniqueness of this event lies in the vintage harvesting demonstrations running alongside the car boot sale. Period tractors, combine harvesters from the 1950s to 1980s and other historic agricultural machinery are operated by passionate volunteers, offering a fascinating spectacle for young and old alike.
