La Machine, cité minière au patrimoine préservé
La Machine doit son nom au baritel installé en 1689 pour extraire le charbon. La ville a connu son apogée dans les années 1950, devenant la quatrième agglomération du département derrière Nevers, Cosne-sur-Loire et Decize. Bien que la dernière mine ait fermé en 1974, La Machine a su préserver son patrimoine industriel grâce au Musée de la Mine, qui retrace l'histoire des mineurs et de l'extraction du charbon dans le Nivernais.
