Marcilhac-sur-Célé (46160) is one of the most beautiful villages in the Célé valley, in the Lot. This medieval town houses the imposing remains of the Saint-Pierre abbey, founded in the 10th century and whose history is linked to both Rocamadour and the great dynasties of Quercy. Every August 15th, the village celebrates its votive festival with a full program combining car boot sale, entertainment, and concerts, which attracts visitors from all over the department.
The votive festival car boot sale brings together about forty exhibitors who set up in the village streets throughout August 15th. Individuals and a few second-hand dealers offer their used items at a rate of €3 per meter. The location in the cobbled streets of Marcilhac, between the abbey ruins and the medieval houses, gives this car boot sale a unique architectural charm found nowhere else in the Lot.
August 15th in Marcilhac is full of entertainment. At noon, a ceremony at the War Memorial precedes an aperitif offered to the residents. Throughout the day, Thomas and his accordion provide the musical atmosphere. Several food trucks are present: crepes, pizza, fries, and sausages accompany visitors as they wander between the stalls of the car boot sale. Place des Platanes, an original activity livens up the day: a ricochet contest on the Célé, which flows at the foot of the village. In the evening, the bands No Réso and DJ Youss take over to liven up the evening and beautifully conclude this exceptional day.
The Célé valley is one of the most beautiful valleys in the Lot, sometimes nicknamed the "wild sister" of the Lot valley. Crossed by a crystal-clear river at the bottom of impressive limestone gorges, it offers spectacular landscapes between Figeac and Cajarc. Marcilhac is one of its jewels: the ruins of the Benedictine abbey, whose Romanesque and Gothic church is partially preserved, overlook the village and bear witness to a thousand-year history. Since 2017, an ambitious restoration project has brought this exceptional heritage back to life.
