Car boot sale and cabbage soup in the former Carthusian monastery of Sainte-Croix-en-Jarez
Sainte-Croix-en-Jarez is unique in France: a village entirely built within the walls of a former 13th-century Carthusian monastery. The car boot sale takes place in the narrow alleys and inner courtyards of this monastery-village, creating an incomparable atmosphere. The cabbage soup, prepared according to the traditional Pilat recipe, accompanies this day of treasure hunting.
Founded in 1280, the Carthusian monastery of Sainte-Croix-en-Jarez was transformed into a village after the Revolution. Its monks' cells became residential houses, and its courtyards now host village events. The site, listed among the Most Beautiful Villages in France, attracts visitors from all over the world.
