Flea market and car boot sale for lily of the valley on May 1st in the heart of the village of Vénérand
Every May 1st, the village of Vénérand hosts its traditional lily of the valley flea market on rue des Deux Sources, a stone's throw from the famous Romanesque fountain that is the pride of the village. Between 100 and 200 exhibitors set up their stalls from 6 am, while visitors flock from 8 am to rummage through trinkets, crockery, books, and collector's items.
Vénérand is a small village in Charente-Maritime nestled in the Charente valley, about ten kilometers from Saintes. Its Romanesque heritage, including its historic fountain and church, makes it a popular spot for heritage enthusiasts. The green setting of rue des Deux Sources, lined with gardens and stone houses, offers a particularly pleasant bargain hunting route.
In France, May 1st is traditionally associated with lily of the valley and flea markets. The Brocante du Muguet de Vénérand perpetuates this double tradition by offering a day of popular bargain hunting in a village where it is pleasant to stroll. Crafts are also highlighted, with demonstrations by artisans in a green setting near the Romanesque fountain.
Stalls are priced at 3 euros per linear meter. Pre-booking is mandatory by phone or SMS between 9 am and 8 pm. Exhibitors have dedicated parking and set up outdoors from 6 am. Food and drinks are available on site by volunteers, with restrooms for visitors.
