Flea market and spring car boot sale under the arcades and on the main square of the royal bastide of Sauveterre-de-Guyenne
Every spring, the main square of Sauveterre-de-Guyenne (33540) hosts a flea market and car boot sale that sets up under the medieval arcades and in the adjacent streets of this royal bastide. Exhibitors — professional dealers and individuals — offer antique furniture, trinkets, tableware, books, decorative items, lighting, and curiosities. The heritage setting of the bastide, with its four fortified gates and its market hall, gives the event a unique charm.
Sauveterre-de-Guyenne is a royal bastide founded in 1281 by Edward I of England, in the heart of the Entre-Deux-Mers region. With its approximately 1,800 inhabitants, it has preserved a remarkable heritage: four fortified gates (Saubotte, Saint-Romain, Saint-Léger, du Sauvetage), a square with arcades, a market hall, and medieval houses. The surrounding vineyards produce wines in the Entre-Deux-Mers and Bordeaux appellations.
Both dealers and casual visitors appreciate the special atmosphere of this flea market: the light filtering through the arcades, the murmur of the fountain, the golden stone facades create an ambiance conducive to strolling and discovery. The refreshments and food stalls allow you to extend this day of treasure hunting in a village that has managed to preserve its authenticity.
