Summer flea market in La Châtre, in the lanes of George Sand's Vallée Noire
The brocante de La Châtre is a summer event that brings together professional and amateur dealers in the streets of this historic town in Berry. In the heart of the Vallée Noire immortalized by George Sand, bargain hunters sift through stalls in search of antique furniture, trinkets, tableware, books, and Berry curiosities.
In June, the brocante de La Châtre livens up the streets of the historic center of this small town in Berry. Professional and amateur dealers offer antique furniture, trinkets, old tableware, books, frames, lamps, decorative objects, and various curiosities. The atmosphere is that of a true provincial flea market where one takes the time to rummage, chat, and negotiate along the stalls.
La Châtre is a town of art and history nestled in the Vallée Noire, this region of hedgerows and green meadows that George Sand celebrated in her pastoral novels. The George Sand and Vallée Noire Museum, housed in the medieval 15th-century keep, preserves souvenirs of the novelist and works by local artists. The Nohant estate, 6 km away, offers an ideal cultural extension to a day of bargain hunting.
Berry is a prime region for flea markets. The attics of old Berry farms still hold treasures: pottery from La Borne, cherry wood furniture, old agricultural tools, earthenware from Châtillon, and everyday objects from the past. The brocante de La Châtre is the perfect place to find these objects imbued with the spirit of Berry, in a historic and green setting.
The brocante de La Châtre will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2026, in the town center. Professional and amateur dealers. Free admission.
La Châtre is located on the D943, 37 km south of Châteauroux. Parking in the town center.
