Annual flea market in the park of Château de la Mercerie in Magnac-Lavalette-Villars, the "Versailles of Charente"
The Brocante du Château de la Mercerie is held every early August in the sumptuous park of the château, nicknamed the "Versailles of Charente". Located in Magnac-Lavalette-Villars in South Charente, this listed building offers an exceptional setting for a day of outdoor flea market. Exhibitors offer antique furniture, trinkets, art objects and curiosities from 8 am to 6 pm, while visitors can also enjoy a guided tour of the château for 10 euros. The pitch is 2 euros per meter, with no prior reservation.
The Brocante du Château de la Mercerie takes place every year in August in the park of the Château de la Mercerie, an emblematic monument of South Charente. Nicknamed the "Versailles of Charente", this château built in the early 20th century by the Réthoré brothers impresses with its 220-meter-long facade and its French gardens. This grandiose setting gives the flea market a unique atmosphere.
Exhibitors set up their stalls in the park alleys from 6 am. The sale offers a wide range of antique furniture, tableware, art objects, books, trinkets, antique linen and curiosities. The pitch is charged at 2 euros per linear meter, with no reservation required. Only the sale of second-hand and flea market items is permitted: food vendors are not allowed.
In addition to the flea market, visitors have the opportunity to discover the interior of the Château de la Mercerie through guided tours offered at a price of 10 euros. The richly decorated lounges, the art collections and the immense architecture of the building are well worth the detour.
A commune in the canton of Villebois-Lavalette, Magnac-Lavalette-Villars is nestled in the wooded hills of South Charente. In addition to the château, the commune offers a hilly landscape conducive to walks, between vineyards and oak forests.

From Angoulême, take the D674 towards Villebois-Lavalette then follow the signs for Château de la Mercerie (approx. 35 minutes). From Barbezieux, take the D5 to the northeast (approx. 25 minutes).
