The Brocante de Sarzay takes place in an exceptional setting: at the foot of the Château fort de Sarzay, one of the best-preserved medieval fortresses in Berry. Exhibitors set up their stalls around the castle, between the moats and the meadows, offering antique furniture, earthenware, trinkets, books, folk art objects, tools, embroidered linens, and various curiosities. The contrast between the colorful stalls of the flea market and the massive towers of the castle creates a unique atmosphere.

The Château de Sarzay, a jewel of medieval Berry

The Château de Sarzay is a remarkably preserved fortress from the 14th-15th centuries, with its 38 towers, ramparts, keep, and chapel. This historical monument, which inspired George Sand for the castle in Le Meunier d'Angibault, is one of the most impressive medieval sites in the Centre-Val de Loire region. The village of Sarzay, a small commune of about 300 inhabitants located between La Châtre and Neuvy-Saint-Sépulchre, is part of the hedged landscape of the Boischaut Sud, a land of hedges, meadows, and ponds dear to the readers of George Sand.

The Sarzay brocante is the perfect opportunity to combine antiquing and heritage visits. The castle is open for visits and allows you to discover vaulted rooms, a chemin de ronde (wall walk), and panoramas of the Berry countryside. Entry to the brocante is free.
