May 1st flea market between Réalmont and Castres
Vénès is a rural commune in central Tarn between Réalmont and Castres, on the Dadou hills. Its flea market traditionally held on May 1st has become over the years one of the season-opening events in the area, drawing Albi and Castres families and residents of nearby villages seeking a spring outing.
The village of Vénès, nestled between hills, retains a strong rural character. The square and central streets welcome exhibitors, often setting up at dawn. The proximity to Réalmont — local hub with a lively market — and to Castres ensures good attendance without overwhelming the village atmosphere.
Private sellers offer the rural Tarn classics: adult and children's clothing, toys, books, crockery, old linen, small furniture, tools, vinyl, bikes, baby equipment, knick-knacks, and family items. Hunters of rustic furniture, old utensils, or embroidered linen often find treasures at much lower prices than urban flea markets.
May 1st in Vénès is also a chance for a lovely walk in central Tarn countryside — Dadou valleys, flowering meadows, preserved villages. Extend your trip to Réalmont's market, the Bancalié ponds, or local producers. The festival committee's refreshment stand pleasantly extends the morning.
