The June flea market in this Ardennes village at the gates of Belgium
Pouru-Saint-Remy is a commune in the Ardennes department, in the arrondissement of Sedan, in the border region of the Ardennes that extends to the foot of the Belgian Ardennes. Every year in June, the commune organizes its annual flea market, an open-air event that marks the beginning of summer in this village at the gates of Belgium.
Pouru-Saint-Remy belongs to the Pays de Sedan, a multifaceted territory where history, nature, and cross-border culture intersect. The commune is close to the Belgian border, in this sector of the Ardennes that has witnessed many historical events: the Battle of Sedan in 1870, and the battles of 1914-1918 and 1939-1940 have left deep marks on local memory.
The landscape is typical of the southern Ardennes: wooded hills, deep valleys, green meadows, and small villages made of dark stone. The proximity of the Ardennes forest and Belgian natural sites gives this area a special charm.
The Pouru-Saint-Remy flea market is held in June, at the beginning of the warm season, when the long, bright evenings and mild air invite people to go out and gather. Exhibitors – individuals from the village and surrounding areas, antique dealers from the Sedan region – offer:
Pouru-Saint-Remy's border position gives it a unique identity, halfway between French traditions and Belgian cultural influence. Flea markets in this area often reflect this mix, with items from both sides of the border. Collectors of earthenware from Namur or Dinant, Belgian craft beers, or everyday objects from both nations can make great discoveries at these border markets.
Organized by local associations in the commune, the Pouru-Saint-Remy flea market demonstrates the commitment of the inhabitants to community life. In this rural village on the Ardennes border, associations maintain social ties and animate the area throughout the year.
