Rentrée flea market in Montgivray, suburb of La Châtre sur l'Indre
The Montgivray flea market is held every September in this commune near La Châtre, on the banks of the Indre. Exhibitors offer antique objects, trinkets, and finds in the streets of this residential village nestled in the heart of George Sand country.
Every September, the village of Montgivray (36400) hosts its annual flea market. Exhibitors – dealers and individuals – take over the village streets to offer furniture, tableware, trinkets, books, tools, toys, clothing, and various second-hand items. The event marks the start of the autumn flea market season in this area of southern Indre, in the heart of George Sand country.
Montgivray is a commune of about 600 inhabitants located on the left bank of the Indre, opposite La Châtre. The village is the residential suburb of the sub-prefecture and shares with it an exceptional literary heritage: it is in this area that George Sand set several of her pastoral novels. The Moulin d'Angibault, which gave its title to the famous novel, is located in the neighboring commune. Montgivray retains an old bridge over the Indre, stone houses, and a pleasant green setting along the river.
The Montgivray flea market is appealing for its bucolic setting by the river and its proximity to La Châtre, whose town center offers shops, restaurants, and the George Sand and Vallée Noire Museum. Admission is free.
The Montgivray flea market returns in September 2026 in the village streets. Free admission.
