Large flea market during the traditional chestnut fair of Genillé, south of Touraine
The flea market of the Chestnut Fair of Genillé is held every year in October in this village in southern Touraine. Associated with the traditional chestnut fair, it brings together about 130 professional and private exhibitors in the village center and Rue de la Varenne, with fairground rides, tastings, and entertainment.
Every last Sunday of October, Genillé (37460) hosts its traditional Chestnut Fair, an event rooted in the autumn calendar of Southern Touraine. The flea market and car boot sale occupy the village center and Rue de la Varenne, with around 130 exhibitors, professionals and private individuals, offering antique furniture, earthenware, tools, books, trinkets, vintage clothing, vinyl records, toys, and collector's items. The fair atmosphere, with its fairground rides and tasting stands, adds a festive dimension to the treasure hunt.
Genillé is a rural commune nestled in the Indrois Valley, between the medieval towns of Loches and Montrésor, two jewels of Touraine's heritage. The village retains a 15th-century castle listed as a historic monument, formerly the residence of Adam Fumée, physician to three French kings. The Saint-Hilaire church, tuffeau houses, and the bridge over the Indrois form a picturesque ensemble. The surrounding terroir, rich in chestnut groves, justifies the age-old tradition of the chestnut fair.
The Genillé Chestnut Fair combines treasure hunting and gastronomy. Visitors can enjoy roasted chestnuts, chestnut cream, and local specialties while browsing the flea market stalls. Several food stalls are set up in the village. Admission is free.
The flea market of the Chestnut Fair of Genillé returns on October 18, 2026, with its 130 exhibitors.
