Flea market and car boot sale of the Canal de la Martinière, Quai Vert, Frossay — ~200 exhibitors, Amicale Laïque
The Brocante and Vide-grenier du Canal of Frossay is held annually in September on the Quai Vert, along the Canal de la Martinière. Organized by the Amicale Laïque, this landmark event brings together around 200 exhibitors for its 26th edition. A major event in an exceptional natural setting on the edge of the historic canal of the Vendée Breton marsh.
Each autumn, the Quai Vert in Frossay transforms into a large second-hand market along the Canal de la Martinière. The Brocante et Vide-grenier du Canal is organized by the Amicale Laïque de Frossay, an association that has been involved for many years in the cultural and social life of this town in the Loire-Atlantique marsh. With around 200 exhibitors gathered along the quay, it is one of the most important flea markets in the estuary.
Reaching its 26th edition, the Brocante du Canal de Frossay is an event that has stood the test of time and built a solid reputation. This anniversary testifies to the hard work of the Amicale Laïque volunteers and the loyalty of a public of bargain hunters who return year after year. Over the editions, the event has grown, refined its organization, and strengthened its attractiveness to professional and amateur exhibitors.
The setting for the flea market is exceptional. The Canal de la Martinière is an artificial canal dug in the 19th century to allow navigation between Nantes and Saint-Nazaire by avoiding the sandbanks of the estuary. Today, it is no longer used for commercial navigation and has become a popular spot for walks and leisure, lined with poplar trees and reeds. The Quai Vert in Frossay, which runs along this historic canal, offers a magnificent natural space to host the approximately 200 stalls of the flea market.
The flea market brings together about two hundred exhibitors, a skillful mix of professional dealers, antique dealers, and many individuals who take the opportunity to clear out their attics. Antique furniture, tableware, clothing, jewelry, books, tools, decorative objects, and various curiosities are displayed over hundreds of meters along the quay. Visitors, often coming from all over the region, can spend several hours exploring this linear market along the canal.
Frossay is a rural commune in Loire-Atlantique, nestled in the Loire marsh between the estuary and the bocage plains. Its territory is marked by polders, canals, and wetlands typical of the Vendée Breton marsh, which give it a unique atmosphere and landscape. The canal flea market is one of the events that, each year, draws attention to this little-known town and its remarkable natural and human heritage.
