Every summer, around August 9 and 10, the village of Sampolo in the Haut Taravo hosts its artisanal fair and flea market. With over nineteen editions under its belt, this event has become a must-attend gathering for lovers of antique hunting and crafts from the Corsican hinterland, as well as for all those with ties to the Taravo valley.
The event brings together up to 52 exhibitors β a remarkable number for a mountain village β offering a mix of flea market finds, antique objects, Corsican artisanal creations, and car boot sale items. It's a unique opportunity to find authentic pieces of island craftsmanship: Corsican knives, filigree silver jewelry, olive wood objects, ceramics, as well as curiosities and everyday items typical of mountain villages.
Sampolo is a village in the South Corsica department, located in the micro-region of Taravo, in the upper valley of the river of the same name. At an altitude of about 700 meters, surrounded by pine and chestnut forests, this village of a few dozen inhabitants is typical of rural communes in the Corsican hinterland. The annual fair is one of the events that keeps alive the connection between Sampolo natives scattered throughout Corsica and beyond, and their village of origin.
This aspect of reunion is fundamental to the tradition of the Sampolo fair. As in many villages in the Corsican interior, the annual festival is an occasion for former residents to return home, meet friends and family, and perpetuate a strong community identity despite migrations to the cities. The artisanal fair and flea market is thus much more than just a market: it is an act of cultural and identity resistance.
After nineteen consecutive editions, the organization of the Sampolo fair has reached a fine maturity. The reception of the 52 exhibitors β a stable and significant number β demonstrates well-mastered logistics and real attractiveness for traders and artisans in the region. Visitors can count on a diverse offering and an authentic mountain setting for a quality day out in the heart of inland Corsica.
The artisanal fair and flea market of Sampolo returns in August 2026 in this Haut Taravo village. ~52 exhibitors, Corsican crafts, flea market and car boot sale in an authentic mountain setting. Free entry, South Corsica.
